Forklift - Managing Risk

Forklift - Managing Risk

Forklifts pose significant risks to both operators and pedestrians in the workplace if not operated correctly or given adequate space to operate by others around.

For those operating the forklift:

  • Complete pre-start check every morning before getting started.
  • Wear a seatbelt at all times.
  • When operating the forklift ensure you are aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Respect site restrictions such as speed limits, stack height of pallets and flow of traffic.
  • Use the horn to indicate your presence when travelling through doors or around corners.

For those not on the forklift:

  • Ensure the operator can see you and is aware of your location at all times.
  • Remove yourself from confined spaces such as inside the container when the forklift is inside and operating.
  • Keep a 2m circumference between yourself and the forklift at all times.
